Welcome!Welcome to the St. Philip's web site. We hope that your visit will aid you in your faith journey and decisions. We are a congregation invested in our Lord's "Great Commission" to "go and make disciples" (Matthew 28:18-20), and our Lord's "Great Commandment" to love God and our neighbor (Matthew 22:36-40) and to go into the world sharing the Good News.
As a Family size congregation your concerns are important to us. Contact us on how we might assist you and your family. We encourage you, as St. Philip encouraged his friend Nathaniel, to "come and see". Worship and fellowship with us and you may find a "home."
The Rev. Will Carter, Rector and the community of St. Philip's
How do I get to St. Philip's? From US84 turn north on General Stewart Way at the first traffic light entering Hinesville from Midway or Richmond Hill, GA. Travel 11/2 miles. We are across from Olvey Field, the High School Football Stadium.
What do Episcopalians believe? We believe that Holy Scripture contains all things necessary for salvation. We believe that Jesus is Lord and Savior as contained in the Apostles and Nicene Creeds in the Book of Common Prayer. Scripture, reason, tradition, and experience form the foundation for the practice of our faith. We believe in a people in Common Prayer and celebration of God's gifts to us.
What are your service times and dress? Service times are 8:00 and 10:30 am Sunday with other times shown under Worship. Dress varies from casual to uniforms or suits. In the main we are a more casual congregation.
Do you provide child care? We try to provide child care whenever there is a major service. See Worship
What is the nature of St. Philip's? We are a racially and culturally diverse congregation of less than 100 families. About ½ of our congregation is active military while retired military members make up about 1/3 of the remainder. There is always a broad age range of youth as families come and go from Ft. Stewart. We are a "hands on" parish in outreach into the community. "You seem to truly like each other." Has been said about us.
What about Youth activities? St. Philip's has an active Acolyte program as well as Christian Education for all ages and Vacation Bible School in June. Our Jr. and Sr. High Youth activities is directed at building Christian Community through having fun and giving service.
Newcomers Ministry – Meets quarterly for Newcomer Potlucks and time of history sharing. This ministry is directed at helping newcomers be welcomed into St. Philip’s and get to know each other and others in the congregation. Welcoming newcomers with a thank you gift is also part of this ministry. Judy Carter heads this Newcomer ministry.
Congregational Ministry - St. Philip's strives to make every one feel that they are part of our extended community whether it's at the hospitality hour after church services or making the birds welcome through a new bird house in our Memorial Garden, we try to welcome you for a service or a lifetime.
We are always mindful of those who are members away deployed by sending care packages as we did during last year's deployment. The photo above shows one such mailing.
