The Rector's Corner
What’s up at St. Philip’s – Fr. Will’s Reflections
Judy and I thank you for your prayers for our family and us over the death of my
mother, Edna. She enjoyed her time here meeting many of you. Although she had been battling
cancer for several years, her health did not really decline until the last few weeks of her life.
She I’m sure has realized the hope toward which we strive.
The summer seems to have come and school will once again be in session.
Our Gospel readings in Matthew recently have been have about planting and reaping and
about selling all to obtain eternal treasure. I hope that what we have sown this summer
bears good fruit this fall.
VBS for instance was one of the most energetic we have held. There were
great kids, great teachers, great helpers, and hospitality workers pitching in to make
VBS a success. Several of our young adults who are leaving for college next year have been
recognized. We can pray that they will grow in their faith in the years to come.
"Suk’s Room" has been painted and furnished so that we have a small group
meeting room where the old nursery was. It was dedicated two weeks ago.
Several families have furniture and food because of Deacon Chad and
Kathie’s ministry and the effort of those who have worked with them. Some would not have
had electricity or a place to stay had it not been for God’s work through St. Philip’s. Today they do.
Many of the deployed soldiers for whom we’ve prayed have returned - Daniel,
Kathryn, Robert, Rick, and David, to name a few. Others have redeployed and already have been reassigned.
The choir has grown to six voices and has begun singing anthems at many of our
services. Family Fun Film Fridays will begin August 8th. We hope that this will lead to some
more fun events and possible help focus a family celebration worship experience on Friday nights
when we are not showing films. A pilot Alpha program is in the works. Confirmation instruction
will begin in August.
Many have not realized that our Communion Vessels have been on loan to us.
We should soon replace them using your special gifts.
God is continuing His work in us but we must continue our faith and works
in Him. It is through our Faith springing forth into works that the Vision, which is being
formed at St. Philip’s, will be given birth in the days and weeks to come..
